Telecommunications, Wireless Networks - Over the past few years, the need for wireless professionals has
increased exponentially as new technologies and standards emerge
and more organizations install wireless networking solutions.
What's more, the challenges of designing and implementing wireless
devices and service platforms into coherent networks are
increasing, hacking of wireless networks is growing, and service
providers are offering more sophisticated wireless devices and
services.
To help meet the need for educated and trained wireless
professionals, University College has created its Master of Applied
Science degree and certificate program in Wireless Networks.
Graduates take a hands-on approach to designing and implementing
wireless wide area and LAN networks. They gather requirements,
develop detailed designs and perform technology implementation.
Graduates will understand wireless policies and laws, know the best
practices for site surveys and securing networks, as well as
emerging technology trends. They will also possess analytical and
report writing skills, the ability to adapt to ongoing changes in
technical environments throughout their careers, and progress in
their professional responsibilities.
To ensure in-demand skills and knowledge, the curriculum was
designed around the Wireless LAN administrator and security levels
of the vendor-neutral Certified Wireless Network Professional
(CWNP) program. The curriculum also reflects the Wireless Engineer
certification from the National Association of Radio and
Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE). Upon completion, students are
prepared to sit for these certification exams. Priority has also
been given to hands-on-labs. Many courses feature simulation and
remote labs. Courses are taught by instructors who practice what
they teach; bringing real-world experiences into the class. Courses
are offered in convenient ten-week online formats.

Critical Incident Management Concentration -
The tragic events surrounding the terrorist incidents in the
United States have forever changed how we view the world around
us. Today, criminal justice administrators, first responders,
government officials and organizations are faced with a myriad of
challenges as a result of recent disasters and current world
threats. Events such as the World Trade Center terrorist attack,
the Oklahoma City federal building bombings, severe weather,
extensive power outages, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and
other serious situations, have clearly demonstrated the need for
comprehensive emergency planning by all levels of government and
private organizations.
To stay on the cutting edge in the field of Criminal Justice and
to continue to provide quality education, Saint Leo University
has developed a 36 credit hour, Regionally Accredited Master of
Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Critical
Incident Management program.
Concentration Courses:
CRJ 581 Impact of Terrorism on Homeland Security - 3 Credit Hours
This course is an introduction to political terrorism, ranging
from low-level acts of threats and acts of violence that may
represent significant risk to human life and property to
large-scale acts of violence using “weapons of mass destruction'
that may have devastating, long-term effects.
CRJ 582 Management of Critical Incident Operations - 3 Credit
Hours
This course will explore the role of various public safety
personnel in managing disaster response operations. The nature of
disaster, the complexities of disaster response operations, and the
roles and responsibilities of various emergency management
personnel will be examined. Students will gain an understanding of
common post-disaster problems and how the emergency management
community may overcome these challenges.
CRJ 583 Risk Identification and Assessment - 3 Credit Hours
The overall goal of this course is to contribute to the
reduction of the growing toll (deaths and injuries, property loss,
environmental degradation, etc.) of disasters in the United States
by providing an understanding of a process (the hazards risk
management process) that provides a framework that may be applied
at all levels of communities and governments, to identify, analyze,
consider, implement and monitor a wide range of measures that can
contribute to their well being.
CRJ 584 Psychological Aspects of Critical Incidents - 3 Credit
Hours
This course is an examination of the psychological trauma that
one experiences when involved in a catastrophic event. The learner
will examine terrorism, natural and man made disasters. The learner
will also examine how the aforementioned catastrophic events cause
psychological trauma, related psychological and physiological
disorders, sense of community trauma and loss, and the impact of
such incidents on the first responder. In addition, the course will
examine preparedness and the role of the mental health profession,
community response teams, peer support groups, Critical Incident
Stress Management (CISM) and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The study of this phenomenon by first responders and emergency
managers is essential in understanding the impact of trauma and
allows for the development of treatment strategies that can
effectively combat the debilitating effects of catastrophic events.
